I have acid reflux and was wondering if the medication for it can cause problems for the baby. I just found out that I am pregnant and was wondering if anyone out there has reflux and takes nexium for it. I was also wondering if the medication could hurt the baby.

I don't know personally but that's really a question for your doctor, he is the only one who will be held responsible for any medication you are told to take. Only a trained medical professional should be answering this question.

I was on Nexium from the time I was about 9 wks until my daughter was born. Nexium is now a class B drug, and my dr assured me that there were no problem with safety.

I will tell you that once I was about 6-7 months, sometimes even the Nexium wasn't enough for me (and I don't normally have acid reflux). I was taking Tums and Nexium sometimes. Good luck!

I can't say about nexium, but you might want to ask your doc about an injectable acid reflux medication. They probably won't offer it to you until you are in the hospital, but WOW, does it work well. They gave me an iv injection of it, and it worked for 2 days straight!

Otherwise, try to sleep in a recliner, or up on a lot of pillows.

I can tell you I lived on TUMS near the end of my pregnancy.

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant, and i take prescription prevacid for my heartburn/reflux. I have been on this med for 4 years b/c of a pre-existing autoimmune disease. I spoke to ALL my doctors about my disease and the meds i was taking prior to getting pregnant. I also saw a perinatologist (an obstetrician who deals with high risk pregnancies) for a pre-pregnancy consulatation to discuss all my medical concerns with him. I was told that I was in good shape and was able to get pregnant and continue to take my prevacid. I would HIGHLY recommend discussing ALL your meds and your medical conditions with your primary doctors and your OB/GYN. I would not take the nexium unless given the OK by your doctor. Good luck!

If I were you, I would ask your OB before taking anything. He may be able to prescribe you something safe for the baby that can still help with your reflux

If you have a ob call and find out they will answer it over the phone. Also you can ask a pharmacist they will tell you also.

Ask your doctor. Only he/she can tell you for sure.
