Seriously, Are men better drivers? I work for a lawyer and our cases run about 50-50 when it comes to speeding tickets, reckless driving etc... but we have 10 times more male DUI cases than female.

something to add.. answering the question, do women get reduced fines, reduced charges, or charges dropped more often than men?? it all depends on the offenders past driving history, his ability to obtain a lawyer, and honestly.. the current mood of the judge that day. Charges are almost always reduced if the offender takes a defensive driving course before the court date.

My mother always said women were worse drivers, but I don't think along better/worse lines than she does.
What I have noticed:
Women tend to be more timid drivers than men, which confuses male drivers (myself included) because we have certain expectations, such as the driver will get into a space if you leave enough open for them, whereas some women drivers will not be sure that is enough space.
Also, if you are at a turn light a man will get into the intersection so he can go when the light turns yellow or red whereas women will be more likely to stay behind the line and wait for the next light. My father would say if you do not get in front of the light you should have your license taken from you and I agree. Therefore this would be where I would say women are worse drivers. My wife would say that this is why men are worse drivers.
The real issue is experience. My wife will not drive unless she thinks I am impaired (tired or injured, I would never drive with any alcohol in my system) because I am more experienced and it is culturally considered more appropriate.
I have a lot more speeding tickets, so I am certain the law would say I am a worse driver. :) I think it is interesting you work with a law firm and have stats. Do you think women are more or less likely to get out of a ticket or get off with a warning than a man?

I absolutely think women are worse drivers than men. I know the stats for minor traffic offenses are about 50-50, because when I went to a defensive driving course the class had an equal number of women as men.
However, my personal experience is women are worse drivers. As an example, my aunt caused an accident I was in that caused me a serius injury. When I was a kid my mom ran over my foot, and my wife is terrified of driving in large cities.
In all fairness those stats may be false, since womem have the ability to use thier bodies and emotions to get out of tickets.
DUI cases are a totally different issue..

That's a good question, because the Insurance companies seem to think the opposite. Women apparently are a little more reckless than men are, however are less likely to get into an accident, less likely to exhibit road rage, and like you said.. less likely to drive under the influence. Men are just more comfortable behind the wheel, in my opinion. They are able to park better, and are probably less likely than women to be stressed while driving.

In order to answer this question you really need to define "better" or "worse". I think my complaints about women drivers could be boiled down to a single point. Women tend to forget that there are drivers BEHIND them on the road. If they're not in a hurry -- NO ONE is in a hurry.

From my experience women are more polite in traffic, if there is something to differentiate them from male drivers. I really don't think it's a gender thing, I've seen women who are bad drivers but I've also seen men who are bad drivers. The proportion is about the same if you ask me.

Based on my experience, women are terrible drivers because of cell phones and putting on makup. Men are more inclined to let me go first (like turning) etc.

Yeah I confess women are better because they aren't so violent on the road. However learner female drivers are worse than males.

From my experiences on the road, and i've had many, ... I've seen women drivers who could make a vehicle talk, but when it came to "road smarts", they were extremely lacking.
