I had my children close together. Not necessarily by choice. There are pros and cons to each. For example, putting a little space between them lets you focus on each child individually longer. It also provides for a little "helper" when the next child comes along. But if you have them closer together, they have more in common, and when they're grown (like mine are half grown now...teenagers), it's great, because I'm still young, and can do what I like, and go where I want without being tied down with a little one to make arrangements for...and they can do their own things if they don't want to go with me. Personally, I'm glad I had mine closer together, while I was young.

I personally would rather have my kids spaced more apart like 4 years or more. I think that if they are too close together it is harder to raise them and to keep up to them lol. Also the older kids can help with things with the younger kids if they are older as well so this is always a good thing.

As someone with 2 kids who are only one year apart, and I also grew up as the oldest of 3 very close together (3 boys born in 4 years) I think that close together is better, just simply because when spaced way out the whole issues with diapers, babysitters, etc drags on for decades. When they are close together, they are often very close friends too.

Advantages when they are 3-8 they will always have someone to play with. I am talking 11 months apart, or even twins would be nice. The first 2 years would be tough, but after that you will never have to deal with a bored 4 year old.

Close in age. I had my two boys 20 months apart, and I am SO glad I did. My two girls are seven years apart, and although the older once helps, I still wish they were closer in age.

4 years is too much. They will not be playmates with this much time in between. Mine are 3 years apart and it was just about right.

i would love to have stair step kids about a year apart, but i can't have any so i think that it's up to the couple to decide. sit down and talk it over make up your on minds, you know what will be best for you.

I would've preferred to have my kids close in age but, it wasn't possible.
I have two children, sixteen years apart.
