I have been researching this all day (for my own babies), and although I am tempted to buy 8 in 1 Ultra-Blend Select Ferret Food (20-lb bag) from shop.com, because it is a good ferret food, and it is only $17.99/20lb at this store, plus they will refund $25 on the shipping if you order over $70 (4 bags), I think I am going to pay more, and order from the ferret store.
TheFerretStore.com Superior Choice Original Ferret Diet is the most protein rich food I have found, and the price is good. $22/20lb. The shipping is high though, about $14 for a bag. enter the coupon code cal1, to save $5. I really hate to pay that for shipping, but I want my ferrets to have the best, and so far, it seems like this is. They also have the automatic shipment option, so you do not have to worry about ordering it, it will be done automatically.
Here is a ferret food comparison chart http://www.ferretstore.com/ferfoodcomch.html
whatever you do, do not feed your ferrets cat food. They may appear fat and healthy, but it is not good for them; do some research to find out why. Also, they will go to the bathroom a lot more and it will smell much worse. They will eat alot more too, since most of it cannot be digested, and is wasted. It is worth it to buy the better foods. I read online, that a 20lb. bag of good ferret food, will feed five ferrets for three months. So, that is only around $10 a month (for five ferrets), if you buy the big bag of good food. That is not much to spend to keep your pet healthy.
Good luck, and I hope this helped.

8in1 brand as well as ZuPreem are wonderful quality ferret foods. If you can afford it I recommend blending them both. In other words just mix a little of each in their food bowl.
Ferrets are delicate and require excellent nutrition. Try giving your ferrets a "high calorie vitamin" as well. I recommend FerriVite. 8in1 brand makes it. It is a sweet vitamin paste that ferrets love! It also doubles as a treat. Make sure to read the directions. You must administer a certain amount by size of the ferret once a day.
Treats are important too...you will see them around the pet shop...make sure to have a couple on hand at all times! :)
By the way: Please do not buy Marshalls food! Not only is it inadequate nutrition it is OVERPRICED for the quality. Also...supporting Marshall Farms means you are supporting their abuse and horrible ferret breeding practices.

I'd switch to Marshall's they are pretty much the best. But if your ferrets are already used to Kaytee, then you have to slowly ween them off it. Add one part Marshall and like 3 parts Kaytee and then a week or so later do half and half and so on until they are eating puter Marshall. Switching foods instantaneously can cause problems with the ferrets.

We have a ferret and a cat. We used to buy the ferret the expensive brand food for ferrets, but he would eat the cat food over his food anyday. So we switched to feeding him cat food. It's less expensive and he's great.

I actually had 3 ferrets and fed them dry cat food. I used to use Friskies. They had no problems and loved it were very healthy. Just buy some multi vitamin water drops to add to their drink to make sure they are getting all their nutrients properly.
