Grout is pourous... it absorbs just about everything given the time to do so. Stains are a pain... smoke damage is a stain. My suggest would be to scrape a bit off the top and re-grout it. Once it's dry, seal the grout. The paint idea is ok but it always looks like you painted it... not natural.
I am currently removing and re-grouting my kitchen floor for similar stain reasons... pain in the butt for sure.

all of us be attentive to somebody that the bathe floor grout replaced into not sealed and after 5 years of use curiously poor. expert grout cleansers did not even penetrate it, the terrific element that we stumbled on replaced into to take some comfortable Scrub with bleach and scrub into the grout, enable set over night and then sparkling up the subsequent morning with ordinary water. suitable upkeep is the biggest to conserving the grout looking sturdy. whilst mopping the floor, use the smallest volume of water as available, and dry the floor whilst finished cleansing. you should evaluate having the floor professionally wiped sparkling the 1st time, the air purifier could desire to apply what feels like a floor buffer that capacity scrubs the grout and sucks up the water because it is going, having it resealed and then it would be much extra easy to scrub

when I bought a pre-loved house the grouting was black, I [being female] decided not to waste time on trying to clean it, I simply re-grouted it, this is simpler than it sounds, ask your hardware store man.

On the other hand a friend of mine mixes bleach and soapy water and mops it every 2 weeks, he leaves the solution on for a hour and then cleans it off, he swears by it
