Whenever I try to draw it's like am afraid that something horrible will come out cand that ruins my concentration...especially on big paper, really big size...when I draw on small paper I don't get lost, but when I start drawing on big paper I'm afraid that I'll ruin the drawing...I can start leting go only after many drawings and sketches....Why do I feel this way ? Could it be that I need to warm up before I start ? What can I do to reduce the feeling ? Some time ago, drawing was like I was in a trance, I would be completely focused but now...Any artist that had similar problems, can you help me ?

I feel the same about writing. I've thought about it a lot, and I think my problem is that I set my standards too high for what is essentially practice. That's all writing is. Some of it will be crap and some of it will be good. Nothing is wasted, though, if art is attempted. Not drawing or not writing is the real sin.

i've drawn throughout my whole career & know exactly what your feeling . being apprehensive is a fairly normal thing . how would you liketo be tattooing , think about that & paper won't seem so scary . i'm a sculptor , but have taken to drawing tattoo designs , mainly for myself , as i'm having a full sleeve done . i can only can get in the "zone" or trance once & a while , but take full advantage when I do . i've found my biggest challenge is inking in a good pencil drawing . i work on watercolor paper , in an 18 by 14 inch format . I like to work large . see my work at popclt.com & if you have any more questions you can write me at popclt@yahoo.com tp. mullin

I use to have the same problem when I paint on a 16x18 canvas. I guess I feared that if I messed the painting up I was flushing money down the drain. The way I got over it is I remembered that there not all going to be masterpieces. Many artist eithier have painted over the same canvas 10 times or wripped out their share of paper. So believe me your normal.

My advise is to just be a kid again, and stop thinking so much.
