my assignment is an 8 page research paper but it cant be on anything obvious like abortion, the war in iraq, etc. it also has to be an argument not just informing people. any ideas???

Is there anything that whenever you hear it on the news, it catches your attention? anything that you always comment on when it comes up in discussions with your friends?
the key to writing an excellent paper is to choose a topic that you are interested, because it is almost impossible to interest a reader in something that does not interest you.
Easy topics like this include all kinds of clear-cut, two-sided debates. you could argue between two brand names, two political figures, two religions, whatever YOU are interested in.
