PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is usually the result of extreme distress due to the recall of a near death or very traumatic event. The best Rx is counseling and medication until the symptoms subside (symptoms can include flashbacks to the event [usually triggered by something that reminds you of the event {could even be something like a red car}], nightmares ...). This one can hang on for a good bit of time and usually depends on just how threatened the individual felt during the near death or traumatic event.

if thats the same as post tramatic stress disorder then thats me. dont know the common characteristics, but i can tell you what i have. i have depression, intolerance to stress and fear of dying. have massive panick attacks, obsesive avoidance of anything that can possibly trigger the event that caused the initial trauma in the first place.
nightmares of being really sick.- i was hit by a car while standing on the side of the road with my wife in 1998, christmas morning. my head smashed the windsceen of the car. after knee surgery which they repaired a year latter to which i had no ligaments holding my knee together i had a massive lot of blood clots go to my lungs which put me in to a battle for my life. after being told i could die our end up brain damaged. i ended up with post tramatic stress. not to mention my wife had five fractured disks. i think you know if you have it, your life is totally screwed up. to help the situation i think it gets easier with time. or to take the mind numbing medication for a quicker response- but i didnt choose this path so i dont know?
