The squealing in a Mitsubishi are the squirrels, No I'll stop now.
I would ponder a guess at the fan belt, they like to squeal in winter when they need replacing. you can spray a little water on it when it is squealing if it stops replace the belt.
The Eclipse has a cable accelerator. in the cold it may have bound up. try putting some cable lube on it. It is most likely sticking at one spot and try putting anything into gear at a higher rpm and I guarantee it will jump. you may also have a bad Throttle position sensor or it just got dirty. You might try washing the engine and see if that helps. With out seeing how it jumps it's knda hard to get exact. But it ain't the timing chain :-)

Sounds like several problems...when is the last time you changed your spark plugs? Belts do need to be changed...I recommend once a year. As far as acceleration make sure you check your fluids regularly...could be a transmission problem, but this could also be caused again by faulty plugs.

With luck, fan belt or power steering belt. Inexpensive, but when it goes, your car wil
be in deep doodoo.
With rotten luck, power steering pump, so then next thing on your agenda is an auto repair shop.
Good luck.

It sounds like a belt issue. But have it checked soon. You don't want the belt to break and leave you stranded on the road.

take the belt off and check to see if the pulleys turn freely except of course the crankshaft pulley, it sounds like an idler pulley bearing seizing up

examine the belts for slackness, approximately 0.5 an inch loose play on the longest run.pay attention to the alternator making use of a screwdriver like a stethoscope. whether it particularly is rather noisy it particularly is the alternator bearing.

Check your transmission fluid level, and top it up if required.
