im told that 02 bios and 10 are newer by scale of the number, but now a newish up to date pc has 03 bios and the old optiplex board although new has version10 in other words how come. thanks for previous answers

Every motherboard has a different Bios built specifically for that board. So, the 02 and 10 are really not comparable. It's like having a copy of Adobe Photoshop 2.0 versus Adobe Illustrator 1.0. They do similar things but they just aren't the same program, so one is not the upgrade of the other.

There may be a bios update out for your current motherboard, but upgrading the bios is usually one of those things you should do only if something isn't working properly, and the notes on the new BIOS build says that it will fix the problem. If you mess up the installation of the new BIOS your computer could become one big paperweight.

go to the dell web site and onto the support section.

enter your service tag number (on PC case)

look up firmware/Bios upgrades. You will find the latest for your PC. Asking this stuff on Yahoo answers will get you no-where.

Top Tip:- Unless you are experiencing a specific problem do not bother upgrading your BIOS. Your not going to fix anything unless you have something to fix.
