Does she have to get the 3 shots for the vaccine to work? Or is she protected with the first?

There is a reason there are three shots - it takes all three to protect you. You should use condoms even after you have had the shots anyway - the vaccine doesn't protect you from all the other STDs or pregancy.

The gardasil vaccine is recommended for females between the ages of 12 and 26 - after 26 there is fair chance that you have caught it already.

You're kidding right?? You can have sex when you are ready to deal with the consequences. There are other sexually transmitted diseases and infections out there some which are easily cured with a dose of antibiotics for example syphillus or clamydia and others like herpes, hepititus and HIV for which there is no cure. Even if your partner is a virgin he can have these diseases. You'll have to go to a clinic together for testing. If he refuses, don't have sex with him.

You'll have to use condoms and possibly hormonal birth control (ask your doctor). You should also talk to your partner about the possibility of unplanned pregnancy and whether you would keep it, adopt it or decide to have an abortion. None of these is a walk in the park.

Then of course, you sound young, so you'll have to deal with the stress of hiding it from your parents and what if they find out? Like if you have to ask mom for money to have an abortion or to pay for your Valtrex??

Or the emotional issues? Yea, too many young women are taught that women only have sex for emotional reasons and that sex is about love. It's not. It's about two bodies getting it on. The boy your with probably doesn't love you and probably won't even talk to you much 6 months from now. If you're cool with that, good for you. If not? Yea, well don't have sex yet.

So, while I'm certainly not an advocate of abstinence until marriage, your question sounds misguided. Either the fears of anti-vacination groups have come true or you're one of them trying to prove a point. Anyway, when can she have sex? When she's ready. When's that? When she can deal with all of the above.

This girl might want to look into getting her hepititus B shots too. I got those because it was an optional vaccine given during school hours in grade 7. I didn't want to go out and have sex, but it was probably good for the future. I wish I had the opportunity for the HPV shot, but it wasn't around back then! It sounds good.

Well seeing as the shot is recommended for girls age 11 or 12, the answer to your question should really be NO -- these girls are still babies and should not be having sex. There is currently no research to show how active the vaccine is if the girls do not get all 3 shots -- all 3 shots are highly recommended

I agree with the person above me. But keep in mind that the HPV vaccine does not protect you from syphylis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, pregnancy, date rape, etc., etc. It even only protects against four types of HPV, and there are about a hundred types of HPV. Maybe I'm overstating this, but the way your question is phrased, it makes it sound like protection from HPV is going to be a ticket to safe sex.
