I hope not because I'm in love with the girl on your avatar. Pink is my favorite color.

love is not the greatest illusion,we are. We can be ourselves to anyone person or people. Then turn around and act a complete different way to someone else. Why? do we feel the need to lie or improve our own self-worth for someone else's benefit?Sometimes yes, love is an illusion, especially if you've been hurt over and over. But for the mostpart, it's not the greatest, or last. And what about when it comes to religon? I am not a bible-thumper, far from it, but man has been arguing for centuries over the existance of a higher power. that in itself is an illusion, that people are once again trying to establish an image about themselves,by theorizing and studying all aspects, but in truth, they know nothing.

LOVE as a thought could be. But LOVE as in doing good things to others is not an illusion, its hard work.

no.

but it can seem so when a person or collective is existing within conditions creating joy and then a condition is realized or created which seems to make love less.

then love may seem illusory.

in the young and hopefull love can be a great resource and anticipation and then experience brings realizations of conditions to love which may bottom out their own resources. ... or challenge their own resources.

in the more experienced love can be a great illusion for they who anticipate change of conditions to modify their hopes/wishes thereby possibly causing the experienced to distant themselves from relations.

in the mature love is both illusion and reality when they who realize conditions do and will change is anticipated within their own unconditionality.

grandparents/parents know the unconditionality of love if they recognize that a person exists to experience what is created in the conditions.

and for all time the living experience will show each of us this.

Love is only an illusion when you put the Love of yourself
above anything else...
other than that, it's real & it's painful!

Well some thoughts.

1. Love and other corresponding emotions (compassion, mercy etc.) are UTTERLY unexplainable by any naturalistic theory such as Evolution. Love hinders raw "survival". Because of it we care for the poor and needy and handicapped instead of kill them off like Hitler. From a purely "practical" standpoint it's a hindrance not a blessing. So i think any delve into love must mean a trip beyond the small confines of "practical."

2. So then what makes a human intrinsically worth loving? I mean are all "worth" loving? Is someone’s abusive father or a murderer or a liar or just some selfish valley girl who would rather see you dead than in her way in traffic worth loving?
What's your answer? Depends on the basis of your love right?
If your basis is the persons good behavior or (worse yet) how they make you feel, then your basis fails pretty quick right? How does your ex-boyfriend/girl-friend make you feel now? How about how they made you feel BEFORE you starting dating them? Two different stories right ;)

3.So people let us down and they never meet our expectations.
So that's out the window for a basis of love. The sunshine of human love sets and rises often.
So What then?
What if the good things we see in people (and in ourselves) are merely a reflection of another Love that doesn’t change?
Think of us a farmers and love as the crop of Life.
The Moon (whose light is a reflection of the Sun) disappoints and POVES to be an illusion or a mirage if we try to grow our crops by its light. But if we understand that this is not the Moons proper role then we wont curse it when it fails to do that job.
If we understand that the Sun is the natural method of growing ones crops we can at night, look up at the moon and admire it as it shines with the beauty the Sun lends. The Moon is a reflection of that beauty nothing more.

So if we are the farmers and the crop is love, the moon would be human relationships and the Sun would be God.
We are made in the image of God, that is why the poorest and sickest person in the world is worthy of respect of dignity. It is true that sometimes the moonlight is bright and you see Gods love reflected clearly in people but sometimes it's the dark night of the soul and you must know how to go to the Son to get that love that this world cant always give you.

Call me a "bible thumper" or whatever you want too, but since you asked the question about "is love an illusion" I will answer with a resounding NO! And i base it more than a wish and a hope, I base it on the unchanging Promise of an Eternal God. His name is Jesus. The Son of God. ask Him to show you how to live in His love, He will answer, He will fill you heart like He has filled mine and many others. He alone loves us when we are unlovely and teaches us to love others the same way. He forgives us our sins so that we can forgive others.

Last illustration:

Someone will say:
"Why do you need God why not just show love?"
Good question.

Picture that you have a glass full of water, now picture a room full of people who are thirsty...real thirsty...now, try to satisfy your thirst and also all of theirs. What happens? You run out of water right?
Now picture the same scenario but this time you have a sink right next to you...makes it a lot easier right? In fact...without that well of water it would be impossible to truly satisfy yourself and everyone else.

Human love is like the water in that glass....i dont care if it was a 7/11 size jug of water you carried around you will eventually run out, and get discouraged or even depressed.
But Jesus said
"He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."

Think of it, a RIVER of Gods Love flowing from within you!
Its yours for the asking. I did, God answered, It's good.

Blessings,
Stephan Joseph

p.s.
Matthew 7: 7-9"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

p.p.s what in the world is a" bible thumper" anyway? Is that some kind of religious rabbit?

no ... equality is.... We are not supposed to be as wealthy as 'them' and they like it that way. Still, they tell us money isn't everything and fame sucks and that they love the masses.
