I am interested in studying international law, particularly international corporate law. Is Cornell a lot better than GW? Will I have better internship opportunities at GW?

I am interested in international law, particularly international corporate law. Should the cost of the universities come into question, as GW would be cheaper than Cornell? Also, I am thinking about pursuing a JD/MBA. Any advice on the MBA programs at the two universities? I've heard all of the big international law firms are in DC and NYC, so would being in DC give me an advantage in obtaining one of these positions upon graduation?

Cornell is a much more prestigious school. You will probably find more intership opportunites in Cornell as well. Once you come out of Cornell you will find a job immediately, whereas for George Washington you may have a difficult time.

While Cornell is a more prestigious university overall, their law schools are pretty close in the rankings. Cornell is ranked #13 by US News while GW is ranked 19th. Ken F's warnings about not being able to get a job coming out of GW are unfounded. See the first link below for more information on law school rankings.

Since you are interested in International Law, you may want to take the rankings of these school's International Relations departments into account. Both schools have highly regarded IR programs. Cornell's IR PhD program is ranked tenth. GW's program is not ranked. However, GW's terminal MA program is ranked #7 while Cornell is either unranked or does not offer a terminal MA degree (probably the latter). Both schools have highly ranked IR undergraduate programs -- with GW getting the slight edge.

Bottom line -- Cornell gets a slight edge aademically. The question is -- does this slight edge plus the snootiness factor of going to an Ivy League school outweight the fact that GW is in DC while Cornell is in the middle of nowhere?

hi Zachariah, He could desire to anticipate admission at relating to an analogous point as somebody with a three.fifty 5 GPA from the different respected college with that LSAT score. on an analogous time as there are some gentle variations between the scholars of specific faculties, for the main section, the standard of your undergrad college pales in value to the GPA and LSAT score. quite on the grounds that Vanderbilt is by potential of no potential a bad college. As to what to anticipate, i might say that a T14 college may be slightly bit a stretch, however the decrease T20 is definitely available (George Washington, Washington). sturdy success!
