The etymology of words ( the derivation and history of words) are derived from different sources.Most major languages have roots in the Indo-European language family. A lot of words come from europe such as Latin, Germanic languages etc. Words are "classical" yet evolve like everything in culture. A word consisting of two or more stems joined together is called a compound. Words are adopted every single day. A language is like a very "LARGE" tree with many roots and many branches. The roots are the words and their cousins are their similar wordtypes producing many languages their offspring (the branches)

English has the most vocabulary than any other language. About one million words. It keeps growing everyday.
