I have posted a previous question about this and the guy did come get the car and I called the police and he said he could have a mechanic lein on it. And I asked wouldn't I be notified about that? He said he would think but he's not sure. does anyone know anything about mechanic leins? Any help would be appreciated. I did not sign a work order or anything.

exactly as Z25 explained it, only.... they dont have to but normally would notify you for the simple reason that they would like to collect their money so it's only in their best interest that you know. the only effect this has on your vehicle [or any property that may have had a mechanic lien put on it] is that whom ever put a lien on your property has a 'stake' in that property. i.e. you owe him $1000.00 when you go to sell the car a $1000.00 will automatically be allocated to that person who has a lien on that particular property.better off settling the dispute now... good luck

You dont have to sign anything. A mechanics lein is usually because of a dispute to pay or some other disputed charges and the mechanic obtains a lein on the vehicle. Yo may not know until you go to sell the vehicle and the title comes back with a lein on it.
