Cats by far have a better sense of smell then small animals, I'm sure that hamsters do have a pretty good sense of smell though considering that they have very poor vision.

I don't know for certain, but because they are almost blind, I'd assume their sense of smell made up for it. Although one of my hamsters once got out of his cage, fell to the floor whereupon my cat grabbed her and ran off with her. I have to hope the poor little thing didn't see or smell the cat before he had her. We think she died of a heartattack as there were no puncture wounds. :-(
