STUDY!!! Read your textbooks, focus on terms and main points. Take notes while you read. Use the summaries at the end of chapters, and answer the chapter questions as well.
GO TO CLASS!!! Every study I've seen on this subject indicates that regular attendence results in better grades!!! Take good notes during lectures. A day before the exam, review EVERYTHING. Systematically go through every chapter and review main points again, use this time to fill in any "gaps" of information that don't seem familiar. By exam day, the information should seem like second nature if you know it at an "A" level.
Another huge factor is time. Allow yourself ample time to study, read, and review. Avoid working if possible, which will allow you to focus on school entirely.
Take advantage of any extra-credit opportunities, those extra points are a big help.
Develop relationships with your instructors--make yourself known to them by asking questions one-on-one during office hours.
Don't overdo it. Allow yourself some time to have fun. Getting burned out will kill your motivation--there has to be a balance.
I started college at age 22 with an 8th grade education. Using these techniques, I have made the "Dean's List" 3 semesters in a row. If I can do it, You certainly can. Good Luck!!!

LISTEN!!! in class, the teacher explains everything you need to know. my last quarter average was 99.9, and all i did was be dedicated to doing the homework, studying for tests, and listening to the teacher. it also helps if you try and make it interesting for yourself. just make sure you keep on top of any assignments / readings, because it will be a lot easier to pay attention if you understand what is going on.
