I am on the pil (one where you take it for 21 days then have 7 day break) I have been on the pill for about 2 years. I skipped a period by starting a new packet straight away. I am having light bleeding but I am not due on my period for 9 more days. I am also having pains. Why has my periods come so early? What could have caused this?

Hey i just come off of microgionon, (if thats how you spell it!!!)

Its normal any way if you skip a pack and continue with another pack. It happened to me, and i also had a light bleed, and i wasn't due for another two weeks. Just finish you pack as normal, and your period will come as usual.

This is called 'breakthrough bleeding' and happens because you 'changed' the 21 days on, 7 days off and 'missed' a period. You are getting 'pains' (cramps) because your uterus is trying to 'get rid of the extra blood' while you are 'still taking the pill' .. but DO NOT stop taking it until the 21 days is up ... and then don't take it again until the 7 day 'break' is over and you shouldn't have any problems. If the 'bleeding' gets heavier, or if your 'cramps' get 'really, really painful' and start coming in 'waves' with some 'no pain' between, you should see a doctor immediately, because you could be having a 'miscarriage' ... and yes, you can 'get pregnant' on 'the pill' ... they are only 'effective' to prevent conception 99% of the time, so that leaves 1% that you can get pregnant, and your 'skipping one period' and starting the new pack right away could have been 'just enough off' for you to get pregnant ... but that is 'unlikely' and you should 'go with the regular schedule' to prevent 'further problems' in the future.

I was on that pill too and regulary used to double up on packs to skip a period. I used to occasionally get some light bleeding when I'd doubled up towards the end of the second pack, a bit like spotting, then I'd get my normal bleeding during the 7 day break at the end of the second pack. The crampings just your uterus getting ready for your period. How you've described it sounds exactly the same how I was after doubling up on a pack.

Well, you changed the pill. That was not a smart idea. The thing is that every gynecologist will tell you that when switching the pill you have to take a one month break before starting a new pill. This allows the system to clear out the old pill. It is important to take this break cos of the different amount of hormones in the pill. So, it's normal that you are having problems due to this. I suggest that you continue using the pill as you would normally and stop as you would normally and then start again. This should balance your system out. BUT if the pain does not stop, either go see a gynecologist or stop the pill for a month!

I was on the pill for 13 years and always found that if I took 2 packs in a row I skipped my period but then my next period came early.
I spoke to a doctor about it who said it is nothing to worry about, just a side effect of taking two packs in a row.

this can happen when you skip a period, all you need to do is stop taking your pill for 7 days like you normally do and then start the next cycle. Its nothing to worry about,

You definitely need to contact your doctor, or go to see a health care professional. There is no telling what may be going on. You could even be pregnant. Most women who become pregnant, complain about similar symptoms. Remember, the pill is not 100%. I know many women who have gotten pregnant while taking the pill. Then again... maybe it's just your body regulating. However, it's best not to guess and not to do anything unless you see your doctor first. Good Luck.

Its totally normal don't worry. By the way, many family planning practitioners recommend doubling up on packs for up to three months. Apparently it can help lower your risk of cervical or breast cancer, I can't remember which.
