to tattoo a weddind ring shape on your hand instead of wearing the real thing, because then you dont have to worry about losing it down the toilet, the sink or in the sea not to mention not worrying about germs.

I don't think its all that weird, I think it's quite a popular thing to do these days. And like you say, it does have some practical implications, and is probably much more economical.

On the down side - you wont be able to pass on the ring as an heirloom to your kids, and after 50 years together it might start to just look like a big black blob on your wedding finger. Also it will hurt when you get it done.

And what do you turn it into when divorced? Will the next bride accept the old ring meant for someone else? or do you have to have it removed and a new tatoo put in its' place?

I've seen people do this before. its kinda neat. I guess you can never take it off that way. I'd like one under my ring so that if I had to take mine off because of surgery or I'm going swimming and don't want to lose it...I'd still have a wedding ring on.

Sounds cool, and if the relationship is over, you can re-ink it and forget a bad decision. But while you are married there will be not way to hide your status from possible conquests.

Pamela Anderson did that with Tommy Lee. I wonder what she did about the tattoo now that they're divorced.

Not weird, just a little too long-term. It's practical, but if you get divorced you're either stuck with it or an ugly removal-scar.

Good idea. You could also tatto your hairstyle on. And clothes. Hooray for tattoos - and here was me thinking that they were tacky rubbish for weak minded fashion victims.

The only problem is what new tattoo to put on there after the divorce.
