MY NCT is booked for next week and the driver's door lock suddenly stopped working. I could lock it with the key but can't unlock it. I messed with it for a bit and got it to unlock but only if you hold it at a particular angle. It's a temporary fix at best. However, I can't really afford to get it fixed in a garage at the moment and am wondering can they fail the car in the NCT because of it. I mean it doesn't really affect the safety of the car or make it a liability on the round.

Because our government backed idea on NCT (as if we dont pay enough road and fuel tax) is really a money making scam we both know that... You would really bank on them failing it, considering they fail a car for not havin a poxy light on a reg plate..go get a bottle of WD40 spray oil and stick it in the lock, It might just be a sticky pin.. I have a beemer and the same thing happened the passenger door, Central locking wouldn't work proper, but after a shot of spray oil it was brand new......

The door lock is not significant to the test, my central locking didn't work at all and I had a pass, what you should really do if your NOT happy with the result the NCT center gives you is to ring the number you have for Dublin (to book your test, etc.) and after giving your details ask to speak to a customer service adviser, explain your problem to them an insist that you do NOT want to pay for a re-test because you consider the problem you have does not qualify under the conditions of the test.
They should then e-mail the center, who intern will ring you to discuss the problem, its usually the mechanic that did your test, this way you do have a chance to contest the decision made by the mechanic.
as in my case they told me to bring the car back in and a re-test would be done FREE of charge, this I did and proved them wrong, its an on going thing that they have to fail so many to generate the extra income, if you do complain this practice will not stop.

I was told I had a leak in my fuel tank, the mechanic stated that there was discoloration on the tank and he could smell fuel, he did NOT show me were the problem was on the tank either, i knew there was no leak there, but I complained and won my case, so get onto these people and complain,28 euro's is better off in your pocket , not theirs.

Hi

i think they will fail it, my sisters car failed for wheel bearings, or something stupid, and her lights were not orange enough, others failed because theres were too orange. My own car failed cause the water sprinkler valve was blocked, so i guess a door that won't open would fail.

But I'd bring it anyway, cause your only going to get a list of failures, (of the craziest things imaginable and your door), so you may as well wait for and get the whole lot fixed at once.

in basic terms thank you to envision may be to have the emission attempt performed previously. Can the storage that informed you it mandatory changing no longer examine for you? Its in basic terms a case of putting the probe interior the exhaust and dealing the automobile.

yes it will fail but they will give you time to fix it and bring back with out having to go through the hole text again providing there is not much else wrong like nothing major, leave it and see cause they normally find little things wrong anyway. maybe go to scrap yard and get one, should not cost too much ok hope i have helped good luck Brian

I think you should be alright. The test is really just for emissions and safety. The door lock shouldn't really matter.
