My husband works 12-14 hour days sometimes and once in a blue moon has to travel out of town overnight.
He does it because it's what he's got to do to afford for his family the kind of lifestyle he wants them to have. It's the most unselfish thing I can think of.
He grew up poor and watched his mother live her life working long hours cleaning houses to raise her children alone- never accomplishing any of her own goals- never finishing college, and he wants better for his family.

I would rather have the mediocre job so I could come home. More and more jobs are expecting people to work 10 or 20 hours of overtime a week, the money is better but why have a house if you can never go there and do anything.

Money and benefits mean nothing to me if I don't have love in my life- I'd take the mediocre job and have a lot of time to spend with the ones I love. When I'm ready to go, I am going to look back at the memories and the time spent, not my occupation and my money.

i would definately choose a job that lets me see my family every day, as long as i was making enough to support them.......and the benefits too, that is part of taking care of yourself and a family.......i work 2nd shift and my fiance works 1st shift and we live together and never see each other........it really is not worth it, i mean money does not buy you time with your family.........i feel like i don't know my fiance anymore......and we have almost broken up over this........well, lets just say we are going downhill at this point in time.

So you should say that the woman shoudl stay home and take care of the kids??
Or maybe the husband should give up his job instead and take care of the kids?

Love and family first! What is the point of huge amounts of cash if you waste your life away from your loved ones? No amount of money will buy back those precious moments you've lost. I would rather die feeling loved, cherished and blessed then bitter, lonely and disappointed but wealthy.
