I have had my Acclaim for a little over a year, and it hasn't caused me any problems until December. I had just been driving the car and I took it home to pick something up from my house. My car had been turned off not even 15 minutes, and I went back out to start my car, and it wouldn't start. My stepdad and a friend of his looked at it, and I ended up replacing the fuel pump. My car seemed like it was okay, and it ran for a few days. About 3 or 4 days later, I was out at a restaurant with my fiancee, and as we were leaving the parking lot, my car died and wouldn't start again. Again, I had my stepdad and his friend look at it, and they took the starter to AutoZone, where they were told that it was shot. Again, I put money down on another part for my car. My stepdad put the new starter in, but yet again, it wouldn't start. He took the new starter back to AutoZone, and found out that the starter was good, and my stepdad suggested that it wasn't the alternator. What could be wrong?

You are really not telling us enough to help you. Is the car turning over? are you getting gas at the injectors? do you have spark? Is there plenty of "Good" oil in the engine? was it low on coolant? did it overheat? HELP! "InPut!" "I Need InPut"

Ok so the Fuel line is good, The Starter is good, and what about the Battery have you checked to see of it needs to be repalced. What about a normal Tune Up spark plugs whires the whole thing. There is another thing you can do. Get it to a Mechanic who can hook it up to a Computer they can tell you everything wrong with it from your spark plugs not being gapped right to it running rich (oil) my old neighbor hooked mine up a few times and he wiped my computer clean in my car and I got 400 miles to the tank (my car is a Neon) This may cost a bit but call around to places and find out who is cheaper and do that it will help a bunch. Now if its electric work needing to be fixed (later) they can find that out as well if that ever becomes a problem. Thank your Step Dad and friend cause what they are doing for you would have cost you ALLOT of MONEY. Here is Arizona its $60 an hour to work on a car so thank them allot.

Check the brain box of the unit for corrosion. If there is corrosion found in there, either brush the contact points with a soft wire brush and blow it out with a compressor hose, or carefully use anti-corrosion spray. Also, make sure the receiving contacts are clean as well. Ever since the early 90s, computers have controlled every function in a car through the use of electronics and sensors, which explains why there's no longer such a thing as a stiff gas pedal.

Those cars are famous for the timming belt either slipping or breaking..there is a cover on the left hand side when you open the hood and look down at the motor if you remove this cover you will see a belt with a tension pulley on it..you will need to replace the belt and also put the pulley back to the original position because it is self adjusting...if this is not the problem replace the rotor and distributor cap..

It's going to be cheaper to take it to a mechanic than to keep replacing parts hoping you get the right one. It sounds to me like something is getting hot and not letting the engine restart. Next time, let it sit for a couple of hours to cool down, then try to start it. If it does start, it may be something in the ignition system, or possible vapor lock. Let a real mechanic diagnose it for you.

Ignition module. Its located in the distributor or on it. You can go to Auto Zone and have them show you one. Find it on the car and then take it back to the Zone and have them test it. Try replacing the parts that can be tested prior to purchasing them.

Does it turn over? Crank? Not enough details-info to tell you much.
