It will end soon after the publishing of this last book. Then, people will grow older and realize there are better writers, more original plots and settings, and better movies. Or not. Rowling could pull a Lucas on us and come out wth prequels and sequels in 10 years... when she feels like her billions of dollare are running out ;)

Last Christmas, I decided I was going to read all of the Harry Potter books. I had no intention of purchasing the books, so I obtained library copies. I had seen one of the movies in its entirety (the latest one), and it made no sense to me whatsoever.
I'm am almost done with the fourth book (734 pages long, btw), and I'm almost ready to conclude that J.K. Rowling's writing is plot-driven drivel. She's not a very good writer, uses the words "sulky" and "clamber" over and over again, and she has a tough time ending her books.
What she does successfully, however, is mix together familiar elements (magic wands, spells, wizards, boarding school life, etc.). She isn't writing anything new, rather she is renewing ideas that have been written about many times before.
I do respect that she at least attempts to "graduate" the books: The first book is the simplest in every sense, and the books gradually get more complicated and brooding, just as a teenager does.
But in the end, the idea is better than the writing itself.

I refrained from it as long as possible. I'm still not all that into it. I rented the first movie and few months after it came out, for my brother to watch. I ended up watching it with him and thought that Daniel Radcliffe had such a cute smile. That's how I got interested in the movies. I've only read the first three books (one time each), but that's it. This hype will end approx. 6 months to a year after the last movie comes out on DVD. Then in five to ten years when they decide to make extended, "extremely" special edition DVDs, it'll start up again. ;-) Kind of like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

I never have....i saw the first movie when it came out, none of the following movies, and i have never read a single harry potter book in my life........also i dont have posters, books, toys or anything related to harry potter. i am not some obsessed person who counts down the days until the next book comes out and then waits in line for 10 hours to get the first copy, and then wait in line another 12 hours just to get it signed and then run home and read it until i finish it and cry and bawl and then tell everyone what happened and then start all over again on the movie and the next book. i have a life!

I haven't read the books - partially because I feel like I'd be cheating on Madeline L'Engle if I did (remember her?). However, I have seen the movies and they are excellent. The reason why it is so popular is because the story is very good, the characters are endearing and the writing is very earthy and dramatic. Imagine, a children's book that ADULTS are reading - that says something about the quality.

I think J.K. Rowling is a superb writer. Even though the idea of witches and so worth have been around for centuries, she brings something new to twist in every book. I first told myself "WTF" I would never like this... but I read the books and I would have to disagree with what everyone is saying. I love it.
