You should check out Mitt Romney. I think he might surprise you. He is not too far right to alianate Conservative Democrats, but still will represent your views.

The CPAC conference did a straw poll and he got the most votes 21%. Also, the LA Times did a poll amongst Republican Analysts and contributors and he won their as well.

Good luck with your research.

I assume you mean "social conservatives" which although I do share some of those ideals (like the right to life), I am out of step on the issue of gay marriage, but I'll answer anyway.

If you're looking for someone who will try to overturn Roe v Wade, you need to know that the Executive Branch has no authority whatsoever to make or amend US laws. Only the Supreme Court can overturn or change abortion laws in the US. Ditto equal rights laws as regards gay marriage - although most legislators and justices would prefer to leave that one up to individual states (too much of a political hot potato).

Is your concern that McCain or Giuliani would appoint liberals as District and Supreme Court judges? I just don't see it happening in either case, but since the Justice Department carefully vets the appointments and has the authority to overrule the President if they think he's wrong about an appointee, you should concern yourself more with whomever is appointed Attorney General.

I know more about Giuliani than McCain. He is not a staunch pro-lifer nor against gay marriage, but he is a practicing Catholic...the thing with McCain is he seems to be playing to the socially conservative base, and he's not that good an actor!

I like "What's His Name?" (Mitt Romney)(it's a joke, but unless he wins two primaries, the joke will be on him). At present he has a problem with name recognition (lack of it) and message. And he is a bit of a flip-flopper. He still has time to turn that around in his favor.

Giuliani may not be a dyed-in-the-wool social conservative, but he is a fiscal conservative and has a shining record when it comes to law and order - enforcing and maintaining. His biggest draw is his wide appeal, and at the end of the day one Republican candidate is going to have to take on (looks like) either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

I'm a Democrat voter but with a moderate libertarian ideology and do like some Republican Party candidates like Tancredo, Paul or Hunter. However, in 08 I'm conecrned about illegal immigration and I'm willing to support any of these fine candidates because they care about us. I vote for some Republicans in local elections in FL last year because they do a good job. Illegal immigration is my main issue in 08. If none of them make it? The Libertarian Party. However, don't be surprised if your Christian Conservative fellows turn to the Constitution Party in 08 because the GOP nominates Giuliani or McCain (it would do the country and the duopoly good to know that Americans are fed up and we want a real change). And a last piece of advise: vote for who really represents you. If we want to knock the duopoly off from hogging power, we need to show how we feel. Thanks!
