do i have to pull the motor to change the oil pan or would it be easeir to back the trans off?

you dont have to do either 1.just loosen the motor mounts and jack up the engine,to get enough clearence.

You don't have to "Pull the motor but it is the easiest way really. you can undo the mounts on the engine and trans pull the trans cross member (with the trans supported on a jack so you can let it down)and then jack up the engine to access the oil pan. Oh yea !..........pull the fan and / or the radiator so you don't punch a hole in the radiator.
