for my science project, i made a drum out of that powdered milk cans that are quite large, and so i need to explain this thing to my teacher, can you tell me why this is so??

When I keep the drum in my hand, it has more vibration and it creates more sound. Whereas when I keep the drum on the ground, it doesn’t make much sound because it doesn’t vibrate

please answer!!

the drum's mouth (the opening on the bottom of the drum) is much like yours. when you block it, your voice is muted. when you sit the drum on the ground the ground acts as a mute to block the sound as well as a damper to absorb the sound waves. if you put it on the ground and tilt it so that the sound escapes, it will be loud again.

good luck with your project.
