Handling a art career?

Question

I chose being a designer specializing in Motion Graphics and Broadcast Design. However in this field permnament employment is difficult to obtain.

How can I get approval and acceptance from my family and friends? They do not understand what I do and my mother does not believe in an artistic career.

How can I find confidence and calm in myself? I have bouts of hysteria when have dry periods as a designer and have thoughts of could-beens as an accountant, taking the safe path.

I have great passion and desire to be a designer but in general what I am asking how can I find support in my dreams?

Don't make your self-worth contigent on their approval. That's the important part.

Your family may never understand why you don't get a 'real' job in a 'real' or secure line of work. As long as you can pay the bills it's really not their business is it?

Get some skills to fall back on. If you can clearly communicate, teach others, and competently work a computer than you can find a job. You may occasionally have to work in fields other than your dream to feed yourself, but don't give up on your dream.
