If you are relying on student loan money to get you a place to live you are heading in the wrong direction. That is to be used for tuition , books, school supplies etc. Unless your parents are well off enough to pay their bills and yours too, you are going to have to do it on your own. Unfortunately, you are going to have to get a job and go to school. You may have to cut back on a few classes in order to work. Do not spend that loan money on anything else but school, it will come to a point when it will be gone and you will not be able to pay for a class that you need to take. Have seen it happen way to many times.

Since you have not made clear what exactly you need help, I can only guess that it's the rent you can't afford to pay from the way you mentioned the higher rent & lack of student grant. Ask around to see whether there's a room you can have with some family who needs help in certain areas, like someone to babysit, tutoring, gardening, housework, driving, whatever you can & willing to do as part or full payment of the rent.

Keep watching the classified ads for cheap rooms, ask fellow students if they know of any cheaper boarding houses, or ask one you are friends with if they need a roomate to help with the rent.

Well has the room been rented out or not? If it has then you have to find another one. If it hasn't there is not a problem.

what do you do? figure out what the problem is, since you've obviously acknowledged the need for help already.. acquire info, share to possible smarter people, formulate a theory then wate for the big bang..after that, you can check your own pulse..if found you can start from step one again

Well based on that information and nothing else, I would suggest calling your mum (unless there is any reason not to)
