And by support I mean are prepared to take care of the soldiers that are coming back from Iraq unable to care for themselves. For the rest of their lives. Not just until after the conflict like we did with vietnam vets. Your president cut veterans pensions, has spent more time finding money for continued conflict but no money to improve veteran healthcare. What of these young people 20 years from now when the Iraq war is a memory? Are you prepared to step up to the plate and pay more taxes to make sure these heroes are taken care of?

To Sane and Bud not that they will read again or anything. First to Sane: In 2004 when our congress and senate was all republican controlled "The House of Representatives have recently voted on the 2004 budget which will cut funding for veteran's health care and benefit programs by nearly $25 billion over the next ten years. It narrowly passed by a vote of 215 to 212, and came just a day after Congress passed a resolution to "Support Our Troops.""
And to Bud I did not support or choose the conflict but these brave men and women did not either, they just went. Some come back OK, some come back damaged, and some don't come back at all. I unlike most of the cowards in our administration and their supporters think we should put veterans first and the elderly second in the line of people our government supports.

Very good question.
Go here to see what your war is costing you.
http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182
I think another question for your government is why they continue to condone and profit from the use of weapons that leave behind horrendous pollution such as depleted uranium.
This depleted uranium is coming home in your boys too. They have it in their bodies, and are suffering terribly. Not only that, but their wives are contacting cancer from them because the pollution is in their bodies and the results of the act of love. It even burns through condoms. The babies born are terribly deformed and will cost your medical system billions over the cost of their painful lives.
This is a weapon deployed because it brings about the slow painful genocide of the enemy. However your boys are suffering as well. They are all victims, the suffering babies, the maimed parents, the soldiers who are exposed. This stuff does not differentiate between bodies, its damage is the same. And this damage is irreversible once the genes are twisted. Trees, animals, people. The provided link gives visuals and descriptions of what is being done and how it effects the rest of the word including your boys. The truth is an ugly thing.
WARNING: Do not open this link if you have children in the vicinity or if your stomach is weak.

I know this does not answer your very thoughtful question but it is something that should be taken into consideration. The problem is, the people who profit from these obscenities will not stop while there is a dollar to be made. Who are they? Your upper echelon of leaders, from both parties. Money knows no political boundaries.
It was appalling what was done with the VietNam vets. I weep for them, as I did then. They fought in a war that they were reviled for losing. Losing was part of the long term goal of the global elite.
The appalling truth is, that once you have served your purpose, you are expendable to such "leaders" no matter what their political affiliation. There is no money to be made from them. Not when there is more "black gold" and $$$ to be gained at the expense of fresh young bodies that must be equipped.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. No matter which party you have in power it will not change, just the arguments used will differ.
The only one who can help your boys is you. Change your entire regime of leaders. Bring in people who encourage the American people to stand strong together not just give it lip service then work to weaken America by their divide and conquer politics.
Only then will your boys have the care they need, once you have the humanitarian strong government your Fathers of Confederation created for you!

I don't know if I qualify as a conservative - but here goes. Yes I support our military. They fight because that is what they are supposedly trained to do. If they get hurt they must have the care required for however long it takes to get back on their feet and hopefully back to work in a job they can do after their service. What I want to know is which congressmen and congresswomen as well as senators have sons or daughters fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? Is it pretty close to zero? If it is, then we need to make sure our kids don't fight there either. We have a volunteer military and no draft - yet. Take advantage of it - because the Iraq war seems pretty close to Vietnam. Didn't we learn anything from Vietnam? By the way, just how much oil is coming our way in the name of this war? A lot of American blood has been shed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The least we can do is to go in a take the oil and maybe leave a huge pit from a few nuclear weapons. I wonder what those that lived would do then? We don't have to be constant losers in this conflict!

As it stands with an ongoing conflict we are not meeting the needs of the fine men and women who have been wounded in battle, and returned home.
If we are not doing it with an on going war it is sad, but unfortunately true that we will most likely not be doing it 20 years for now.
It is up to us, whether or not we agree with the war, we need to make the care of are troops a priority in the next election. If things continue on the same way with regards to treatment of the troops we will be facing a similar situation as we did int he aftermath of Vietnam. Scores of people, unable to integrate into Civilians society. Unable to get the needed care, unable to work and unable to survive. It is an abomination that we allow this to happen.
We could probably provide a great deal of care for these fine men and women with the 2.3 Billion Dollars the Pentagon has misplaced over recent years.

NO. Conservatives DO help option fuels. We do exactly not help ineffective option fuels like E85/corn ethanol that competes with our nutrition grant and we comprehend that on the 2nd there is not any option gas that would totally replace petroleum (it particularly is a actuality), so we would desire to proceed kin drilling. i think of liberals not in basic terms are undermining our protection tension features by not helping measures that could carry regulations on drilling, yet they're additionally compromising our national protection by putting all our eggs in this option gas basket for which a real alternative for petroleum does not exist and whether they might discover an entire alternative for petroleum the infrastructure isn't in place.

I support the military as, I assume, you do. Therefore, I am as prepared to support them when they return from war as you are. If you say, "I didn't want to send them there. You can take care of them" you may be washing your hands of the financial burden but you are also taking the cowardly way out. Maybe that's not a problem for you.
(Response) Once again you have demonstrated error in your reasoning. I do check back because I am interested in dialogue. As for what you added, I desire to live in a country which takes care of those who cannot take care of themselves including the elderly and the infirmed. How can anyone prioritize whether soldiers are more worthy of this money than the elderly for whom the soldier fought.
The issue with the condition of the VA hospitals is disgusting but this isn't a recent development. This has been going on for literally centuries. Soldiers have never received the care that they deserved but is the only solution to this problem taking benefits away from the elderly?
Your anger towards the Bush administration is very understandable. I thought going into this war in Iraq was a mistake from the beginnning as is the idea of waging a "war on terrorism" (a great catch phrase but impossible to carry out). His policies toward controlling big business as well as the environment and education are atrocious.
But I still call him "my president" as I did "Bill Clinton" (although I didn't vote for him) because for good or bad he represents our country. I applaud constructive criticism (something "W" does not) but that is the benefit of living in this country. We, as a country, need to stop concentrating on that which makes us different - our politics; the color of our skin; our heritage - and more readily promote what we have in common. If we do not we will become a house divided against itself which will not be able to stand.

Yes. The military care has been being cut for many years now, especially prior to Bush. Unfortunately, with all the unconstitutional spending on the welfare state, the politicians have forgotten that taking care of veterans is one of their primary duties.
I don't see why more taxes would be necessary - over 50% of the federal budget is spending on things they have no authority to be spending on.

You struck a nerve--either from your reference about raising taxes, or just the notion that conservatives do not support our troops. It does make one wonder--how this administration can get away with these crimes against our soldiers. And to think conservatives support this administration and not our troops. It is sad sad sad. Maybe some conservatives are stepping up to the plate for our troops, but where are they?

I believe Congress is the one that cut those expenditures, but, it was definetly the wrong thing to do. If my tax dollars were going to be spent on the troops and not some BS welfare program, then by all means.

All vets need to be taken care of but the soldiers that are fighting in the war now still need support as well. They have equipment that breaks down and they hear the comments from people like John Kerry.

excellent question! yes!! this nation needs to do whatever it takes to take care of the young men and women acoming home from iraq who are crippled for life! they paid a heavy price for serving in what is turning out to be a lost cause! i might be fairly conservative in some views, but IRAQ!! IS A WASTE OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS!!!! what are we spending? 100 billion dollars a year? THAT IS INSANITY! THIS MONEY CAN GO TO PAYING FOR THE MEDICAL CARE AND OTHER NEEDS THESE VETERANS WILL NEED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES! so yes, i would be willing to pay more in taxes if it goes towards taking care of the HEROES!! AS YOU FINELY PUT IT! the walter reed army hospital people who bungled the care for the vets need to be shipped off to iraq themselves and put on the firing line!! let is see how they like being abused!!
