Do you have red clay mud in your area? If so, that is very hard to keep out of a house (My parents have to deal with that).

Another thing is that you may be stressing yourself out by trying to do everything at once. Don't: It stresses you out, and while it might look good for one day the dirt will build back up.

Now, I don't know what your cleaning pattern is. But I've found that it actually helps a lot to keep a spray bottle of diluted Lysol in the kitchen, and another in the bathroom. That makes cleaning when the place gets dirty a lot more convenient. This is coming from someone who doesn't like cleaning.

If anyone shares the house with you, draft them to help with the cleaning. You shouldn't have to do it all by yourself if someone else is contributing to the dirt.

Sweep and mop regularly. And if you live in an area that is prone to dust, you might even consider getting an air cleaner to pull the dust out of the air.

Meanwhile, don't sweat the small stuff.

I hope this helps!

If it's not OCD (which you might really check just to be sure) then maybe having a cleaning pattern will help, if you try to clean everything at the same time it never works, for example try cleaning the kitchen mondays, bathrooms tuesdays, bedrooms wednesdays etc, but try to maintain the space clean, just picking up after yourself helps a lot. Also everyone living in your house should help by picking up after themselves.

I notice my house is dirtier in the winter.
Possible reasons:

Dust is being pushed out of your heating vents
Mud and dirt being dragged in from outside
Cooking indoors more often causes more grease in and
around the oven and cabinets (try ez off BAM)
Everything seems cleaner when the warm air is circulating and
the sun is shining in :)

Do you live in the city? Because if you do, open windows will let in street constructions dust, subway and mass transit dust and smoke and pollution. I live in rather small twin and it's near a railroad tracks and sometimes the train will come by with loads of coal on it. And guess what? You end up having smut-covered walls and table tops.

Try flylady.com. It is a great site for developing a cleaning routine, which may help you feel like you have time to do things other than clean.

I'm not sure why. I do know, however, that several of your friends have been planning an intervention. We are doing this for your own good; because we truly care about you. It looks like you've taken the first step - admitting you have a problem. We'll be over in a couple hours to gently push you the rest of the way.

What's your area like? Is it dry/dusty? Wet/musty? We need more information before we can really help.
