Given the choice between the two, I would take the STI, since I would hesitate to recommend any sporty car that's 12 years old. However, I would strongly recommend starting with something more modest. There's no substitute for driving experience, and a street-legal rally car in the hands of anyone without sufficient experience is an accident waiting to happen. I myself feel that the STI is out of my league, even with years of driving behind me.

Having said that, many lower-horsepower cars (like the base-model Impreza) can still be a lot of fun to drive. I greatly enjoy driving a '96 Legacy, even if it won't win a drag race.

Apples and Oranges.

Since you are 18 I would recommend a 1995 Corolla for the time being. But, since you asked...

Both cars are going to be expensive to insure and will get you into trouble eventually.

The Supra:
Great car but it is 12 years old and will show wear and tear. Also good luck finding a Turbo model for under 30K. Parts are expensive for this car as well. The HP rating on the non-turbo one is not all that impressive at all. To top it all off this is not exactly the most practical car around. If you are going to go to Collage then trust me you practicality.

The STi:
Four door makes it a little more livable but keep in mind that this is still an Econobox that was suped up by the factory. IT has more power than you will ever need and other features that you will probably not use. AWD is useless if you dont live where it snows or rains a lot like Southern California. The car has a tendency to understeer and oversteers a lot on lift of throttle. This is why you see youngsters like you flipping them over or crashing them a lot. It is a high theft risk car and a high crash risk car.

In the end if you are going to get one I would recommend the STi unless you have another daily driver and a storage place. Then If you still had the 30K+ for a 12 year old car I would get the Turbo Supra. Either way insurance will be high and the odds of you crashing it or it getting damaged by one of your other 18 year old class mates will be high.

Right on Kyle! Are you even experienced enough to handle a High hp power car? A year of driving doesnt really seem like it... With high hp comes a ton of responsibility.

P.S.
So WHAT if u get HIGH HP WITH A SUPRA. GUESS WHAT?
Whats the difference between a 800 hp supra and 1500 hp supra? NOTHING they still run slow *** quarter miles(with few exceptions). Those things get **** for torque too. ALL of this is coming from a die hard supra fan. PLUS, with all that money you just dumped into your car(it is VERY expensive to mod), you could have gone with the alternative "american muscle". You'll probably spend, i dont know, lets say 30 grand(with the 25k your going to get off your TT(BTW your insurance is going to skyrocket). With that much money, you could have gotten an Dodge charger with a 440, and with all that money, have faster 1/4 times than the supra. Supras also can't get traction for ****.

Evo MR Edition would be my choice for a tuner(this thing eats turns like nothing). Charger most DEF for american muscle

Keep saving that money. Depending on where you live, insurance is probably 300 dollars a month or more, plus another 600 a month or more for the car. Plus, both cars like to guzzle gas, especially the supra. You are looking at 1,000 dollars a month just to drive. Thats almost as much as my 2,400 square foot house costs a month. Buy yourself a cheap car, go to school, and then you can spoil yourself when you are old enough to stay alive and control the power.

Being 18, your insurance is going to be ridiculous on either car.

The 2005-06 STi is going to be more reliable, because it is newer. It also looks pretty sweet and there are plenty of performance upgrades you can get for it. 1995 Supras are known to be driven to hell, and the fact that it is now 12 years old, kind of pushes me away from it.

ok first of all since you're going to be only 18, both of those cars are way out of your league buddy. the insurance cost alone for a driver of your age and experience. you'd be broke in no time on insurance along and would have to sell the car off. and second both those cars are way too powerful for you to control. however if you HAD to have one or the other. the subaru is the better choise since it's readily available compared to the supra and won't be an exotic on the insurance tab.

A 1995 Supra is going to have been thrashed to hell and back by now, so unless you're a brilliant mechanic with unlimited funds, one of them doesn't strike me as a good choice.

So of the two, the STi...

the sti will be more reliable and just as fast.

that being said, if you want a drag car, buy something cheaper and american.

if you want a track car, get an STi

If you want a car to make 13 year olds go "wow!" get a supra.

and if youre just turning 18, youll kill yourself in either car. Go take a race driving class. Itll save you cash on insurance, and save your family money on a funeral.

Buy the STi it's newer. It has better handling, ride and safety and the AWD system is great. You will have some warranty on it. It has 300 horse power from the 2.5 litre turbo engine. You will like this better.
