the food chain is more like a perpetual cycle. don't forget where the grass gets its nutrients and how the fox contributes ultimately to the grass to the same degree that the grass contributes to the fox. remember, energy (life) is never truly destroyed, it is only transferred from host to host.
so, just complete the links to make this chain a cycle. getting the fox's nutrients back to the grass through whatever predatory / decomposition process necessary. and remember, the fecal matter of larger animals that have eaten smaller animals is sometimes the source of the nutrients for vegetation. so if a lion or something eats a fox and then... say... poops, then, the fox is returned to the soil even faster than by means of rotting. he is quickly decomposed in the lion's belly and (some of) the remaining nutrients return to the soil then.
gross, but true.

Most food chains only have about three links as you only get about ten per cent of the energy your meal contains, therefore, the fox's food chain would be grass - small animal (rabbit for instance - or chicken) - fox.

that's pretty much it, although a fox eats snails and slugs and anything. The only thing that might eat a fox would be a wolf, if it were around. But there's not much that would eat a wolf so I guess the top of the food chain ends there!
