When I connect the iPod, the computer recognizes it is plugged in (audible sound) and iTunes starts. However, the iPod never shows up in the source pane. I've uninstalled iTunes and all other music playing software and the iPod, then reinstalled iTunes and plugged the iPod back in. Still doesn't work. Any ideas?

That happended to me too. You need to install the whole update from the apple website. Then it should be better.
