I mean despite that eccentric people have been some of the greatest minds in history. Instead, employers want to hire people who live boring, normal everyday lives and don't try to be different even in their personal lives!!! Why is that???? Is this another example of the shallow mentality that comes from a tradtional, somewhat conservative society?

Unfortunately, that's true. They will hire eccentric people, but usually make sure they are not in contact with the public. Their excuse is that if you don't fit into the "norm" of society, you may offend someone and that is bad for business. So they keep the "eccentric" ones out of the public eye.

Maybe for the same reason I stay away from "highly" eccentric people.

They seem to always want attention.Always needing to put everyone's attention on them. Sometimes loud and obnoxious and defensive.(I think thats a real insecurity problem there). I'd have a hard time concentrating on the job because of this.

And most of the ones I know are always prone to starting some form of uneeded trouble. Gossipping/rumors always being a part of it..mostly negative.

Sorry but thats been my own personal experience about this.

Maybe when I meet one that isnt what I described above I'd have a different opinion.

Btw im not conservative. I do believe in being a non conformist so I welcome the fact that i could be wrong. I'd have to see it for myself. But I do keep an open mind.
I'm 44 years old now and still dont see other than what I've posted so far.

Because executives of corporations are some of the most cookie-cutter MFers you're ever going to meet. They are afraid to hire people with quirks because they're afraid of putting a blemish on their precious image.

It's OK, though. Most eccentric people don't see living in a cubicle or sitting at a desk for almost 2,000 hours a year a desirable job anyways. They're out being creative.

Corporations prefer people that fit into their corporate culture. While there are some corporations that favor eccentric people like technology companies, others don't because it will interfere with their controlled environment.

It shows that the public perception of appearances matters. Remember that eccentric people can prosper just not a visibly as conformists.

sucessful people behind the corporates are eccentric in someway, so they dont want any competition from within.
