Definitely not 50... more like 10 or 15 if you do regular water changes. That's pretty heavily stocked if you have 15, but, like I say, if you keep up with weekly water changes you shouldn't have any problems.

I have a ten gallon tank with 6 guppies and 1 bottomfeeder

I would not put more than 5 guppies in a ten gallon, they grow to be about 2-3 inches long, if you have mixed sex you will have more guppies than you can shake a stick at before too long...

About 10 will do alright if you do weekly water changes. Be sure to keep the male/female ratio right to prevent prevent females being harassed to death: 2 to 3 females for every male. So... 3 males and 6 or 7 females. Also, have a plan in case any of the fry survive because they can overpopulate your tank in no time. ;) Some fish stores will take them to use as feeders.

Some people say you can keep all males to prevent breeding, but I haven't tried it myself. I'd be watching the tank carefully for frustration and aggression. All females would be peaceful but not nearly as colorful.

I'd go with three males and 5 or 6 females. That's a bit male heavy but should work. Start with a trio (One male and two females) until the tank cycles. Then add the rest of them.
