If my daughter wanted a new cell phone, she would have to prove herself worthy of one. Do some chores around the house without being asked, act responsibly, be mature, offer help with dinner, the dishes, yard work, etc. SHOW that you deserve a new phone, don't SAY that you do.

If you bought your current mobile last July, then why do you need a new one? Did you make such a poor choice, made such a big mistake in choosing that one? I think the best thing here is to listen to your dad, you can't replace a perfectly good phone by a new one, just for a new gadget. Especially as it has to do with storing music, which is not a basic function of a mobile at all. - basic functions would be actually making a call and using sms-
However, if you are dead-set on getting the new one, you should pay for it entirely. I suppose you have a job (as you have your own money) so use that money, it is yours and your parents cannot stop you using it. If the money is money you got from your parents, of course, you cannot buy the phone with that.
Perhaps you can suggest not getting any birthday gifts this year, but money instead, so you can use that to help you earn your phone.
But - really- reconsider and think about the money, and how hard it is to earn money. You cannot throw away a new phone, for a newer one. In half a year there will be an even better one, and do you want to throw your new nokia away then too?
O, and if you want portable music, ask your dad if you can get a MP3 player or I-Pod, or start saving for one. Much more effective!!

Let the statement be changed to you WANT a new cell phone, you do not need a new cell phone.
I want a fancy sports car, I do not need one. I already own a beautiful car that is perfect for what I need it for, and it is only the world greediness that makes me consider a different car.
For the people who are suggesting that if Dad does not say yes, ask your Mom. That is not fair to try and play your parents off against each other for your wants. It is difficult enough for a family to work together, without children trying to pull this type of nonsense.
There are always going to be "bigger," and "newer," and supposedly "better" items that you are going to be wanting.
Sorry, but I have to side with your Dad on this one, until you are an adult, you need to be thankful for what your parents are providing for you; and not looking for more and more new items in the blink of an eye.
Once you are an adult, and are working full-time, then once your bills are paid you can have a new electronic gadget every month; if that is what is important to you.

Stop hounding him about it. Wait a month and ask again, once. Then wait another month and ask again and so on. I can see his point. You have to learn sometime that you can't get everything that you think you want.
I know that it is hard to wait and a week feels like 2 when you are still in high school.
Your dad is just trying to teach you to stick with things even though they aren't the coolest new gadget out there.

You just wait and see. I'm not happy with my Nokia 3250 either. I am happy with it, but it's just a fat telephone! Just save your money for it. If you want something, you must understand that sometimes you have to do it on your own, no matter what it takes!
And that means that you shouldn't annoy your father. Give the man some rest. Otherwise, ask your mother.

you could do what i do. i say stuff like ill give up this or that and ill pay for the minutes! or if that doesnt work i go off and mope for about a week. and if That doesnt work, then try acting like you forgot about it and a month or two later you ask about it again like dad,ive had this phone for (how long youve had it). i think its time i got a new one. look at it! its that old phone old people talk about in hair salons or beauty parlors! i need a teen friendly phone that kids wont bye or that old people talk about getting there hair done! And that will pretty much make your dad go crazy with guilt. and in about a week after he'll talk to you about the phone and say son, i think your right, it is probably time to get you a knew phone, lm sorry for not letting you get one sooner. i guess i didnt relize how much getting a new phone ment to you. you can get the phone if you want, on one condition, you pay for the minutes.

Accept this.
The whole society is going hog-wild over what it wants, where in other countries, people are dying cruel deaths.
If you gave ten hours of your life every week to helping those less fortunate, maybe you could convince him that you value life over cell phones, and maybe that would show him.

technology is moving forward so fast....
if you pay for it yourself , it shouldn't be a problem , but if your phone BREAKS , it will probably cost about the same to get a new one, as fixing the old one!!!
