Run a number of print head cleanings.

This process should be outlines in your manual. Chances are that they printer has sat unused for some time and the print heads have clogged.

At my knowledge there is three reasons for that problem -

1 - You should use original HP print cartridges for best results.
Your current cartridge will not be original.

2 - Don't fill duplicate colours on the catridges. Use original
colours on catridges.

3 - You might have taking only colour prints that why it is
coming in red colour. Dont use only colour, use black
too. Then only you can take prints of both colours.

Most of these machines have an option to select if you wish to use color or black ink when you print out documents. Maybe it's set on the color option instead of black ink?

Try "head Alignment"
Try, "Head Cleaning"
Both under Maintenance tab of Printer Properties.

Are you sure your document isn't set up in red? If not you may have put the wrong cartridge in the balck slot.
