I live in southeren missouri, and every night I go outside around 7 or so and look towards the west. I see the brightest what appears to be a star I have ever seen. It is much brighter then the others. Is this a star or a planet or what?

Probably Venus, it is the best visible planet and usually visible in the morning and evening low in the sky.
