I'm assuming you're asking why the overflow drain in the 1/2 bowl of a kitchen sink is always near the "full" bowl, and what's the 1/2 bowl for.
The position of the overflow drain is to minimise the length of the pipe connecting the overflow drain to the sink drain. Because the overflow drains into the main "full" sink's drain having the overflow drain nearer the "full" sink minimises the length of the pipe required.
The 1/2 bowl is usually used for rinsing things like vegetables.

I take it you have a 1 and 1/2 sink.
When you pull the plug on the big sink...the soap or foam is lighter than the water so as the water flushes away the lighter soap bubbles are pushed up into the smaller sink.
I use my half bowl for rinsing soap off my dishes etc before stacking them to dry.

that happens to me, i don't really know what the little sink is for. If u have a bit of a slow running pipe or use to much soap it comes up in small sink, maybe try sink unblocker, i have tried that but soap still comes up.

Sounds like you are filling your main sink (the big one for washing dirty dishes) to full. Usually the small sink is used for prep work, like washing fruits and vegetables so they do not have to use the same water and sink as your dirty dishes.

often this can be due to the washing machine/dishwasher been connected to a combination trap on the sink,no way around it without altering the waste pipes

Sounds like there is a clog. It is used to rinse/wash/drain vegetables, fruit, meat, poultry, and fish. It is like a prep sink.
