Because they think they have the right to play God and condemn a person to hell if they go against a book that some random people wrote ages ago.

Because most religions are dominionist by nature. Members are considered to be more devoted if they can convert people to that end. Of course it is a noble cause...saving...people. Religions use our heroic nature towards these kinds of ends. Heroism has to have an enemy to fully blossom. Heroism makes people feel different don't it? Different about themselves?Mix of humility, self sacrifice and nobility. It isn't like accidental heroism, which is not self-conscious and pure some how. This is be like the prophet, warrior for God thing.
A phylosopher I was listening to recently, stated the view that religions are marketing organizations. Seperate this idea from the origonal teacher, messenger, whatever, and it really portrays them quite accuratly.
Ultimatly this leads to eventual conflict despite teachings of love and peace. If some one doesn't convert when they have had the chance, they basically get what is comming to them. It is very dogmatic and well thought out. There are all kinds of 'checks and balances' that play with the minds of people and cultivate this thinking.
How do you teach people about love and compassion when out of the other side of your mouth you talk about others beliefs as inferior, comming up short or even 'evil'? You can't. That is a form of mental control and manipulation in order to build a flock and control it there has to be a 'boundery'. Of course the flock must grow as well and have 'victory' over the enemy.
Hear of the term self-rightious? Break it down. Self...right!ious.
The truth is out there and it isn't what a lot of people think. Study history from many sources, take religious studies, phylosophy, womens studies is a really good one...learn, learn, learn.
Love and peace!
Oh! To the individual that thinks missionaries or 'Christians' are just sharing their ideas with you. Oh come on! Shareing ideas with the purpose of cultivating conversion is not sharing ideas. I have delt with missionaries quite a bit. I have tryed many, many approaches with them and you are utterly deluded. I know what sharing means. If you are a missionary I am sure it helps you to believe this but it is really a part of the training to enable you to meet the requirements of the program darlin.
I just recently listened to a mother regarding her sons experience as a Morman missionary. Fascinating and very revieling.

The right to speak of ones religion is constitutional however, imposing ones religion is neither a right nor is it consistent with most religious beliefs. Most believe in the concept of free will and that is where the irony exists. How can they claim that God gave us free will, yet when those of us who exercise our free will, suddenly we must obey and be subservient. Not bloody likely.
As for why they feel they have the right. Sadly it's because they confuse sharing the "good news" with indoctrinating or forcing the "good news". Zealots never get this concept.

Normally people just walk away or close the door in their face. They don’t have an audience to listen to them, that’s why they force their views on people here. They’re not even happy sticking to the religious section and like minded people. They want to force their views and abuse onto people in the gay section. If I wanted to hear all that crap I’d go to the religious area of the site.

Yeah... funny how the "freedom of religion" thing in the US Bill of Rights seems to mean "freedom to make everyone believe the same as me"

seems funny, doesn't it. I wonder if they would like it if I impose my religious beliefs upon them.

I think it's all because of their religions told and taught them to do so. To make the whole world become like them and believe the same thing like them. And also because of self-righteousness and obsequious that derive from what they believe.

Like who? The Mujahadeen. Yes, they do that. Christians. They just share their ideas with you. They are certainly not imposing anything on anyone. They are a bit too willing to share, but that makes them about as sinister as the kid in High school who was way too into Star Trek or Dungeons and Dragons.

I imagine most of them don't think they have the RIGHT - they think they have the responsibility.
lets face it if you really beleived in a specific religion and that religion taught you there is a heaven and a hell wouldn't you want to let everyone know. If that is what is really in thier heart it is fine for them to express their opinions. Their concern is actually kind of sweet if you care to look at it in a good way.

It's in their doctrine to spread the Good News. How else to gain converts?
