Because they know that they won't be able to travel for a LONG time because of the busyness that comes along with child-rearing.

I'm not sure about countries but cites do get quite a few (Paris, Brooklynn, Savannah, etc.) I think some people 1) like the way a city/country/whatever sounds or 2)they have some special connection to the place, such as the parents met there or something.
Personally I think that some city/place names are better person names than others, usually because they are already people's names (someone brought up the example of Jordan.) Yes, Jordan is a fine name, but I wouldn't want to name my kid, say, Kazahstan or something like that.
But I also agree with the user who asked why people name kids after fruit. Some folks are just...off, I guess.

The same reason they name them after perfumes, and cars, and even seasonings. They are trying to find something different, and unique, but I think they should realize this child has to carry that name the rest of their lives, and should put a little more thought into it sometimes.

They don't necessarily name them after the countries themselves but rather the way the name sounds ie) Jordan

Probably because they couldn't think of any other name. I actually like the name Georgia even though that is a state.
