I love the book! I read it as a youngster and thought it was an excellent adventure story. I recently read it again as an adult and I still find it quite charming and interesting. Reading it many years later, I am able to pick up on subtle wit that I was not knowledgeable about before. I was also able to find some major literary themes in the story:
Good v/s evil (the kids and the witch)
Male/female relationships (between the siblings)
Gender roles (with the siblings)
Appearance v/s reality (the entire story)
Seeing those themes did not make the story tedious, though!

I like the book, I suppose, but I don't like the message behind C.S. Lewis' stories. In The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, the children are essentially taught that war makes peace, and that there's no room for diplomacy. I think this is a terrible message for children, because it perpetuates cycles of violence and suggests that Jesus (the Lion) would approve.

Not even a thinly veiled allegory that beats the reader about the head with 'the message' from page one. Boring, trite, derivative of Mr. Lewis' fellow Inkling.

Of course, I read LWaW after JRR Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings", and everything pales in comparison to that masterpiece.

It is a great work of literature. It teaches family values and imagination as well as helping the reader to understand that each person has there own value and ability and none is insignificant. There is also the lesson of forgiveness - even if you hurt the ones you love you can earn true forgiveness.

It's an excellent book filled with imagination, adventure and values. Not too many books these days have siblings ready to stand together. Actually, not many books these have siblings.
