If your state offers other health ins. besides medicaid, go to your states web site and look up state insurance plans. In NY, we have Family Health Plus, which is cheaper than most. Other than that, you have the world wide web at your fingertips... just do a search for health insurance plans in your state...call around and find the cheapest plans.

When I first found out I was pregnant...AGAIN!...I searched the internet. I found a program called Maternity Card where they get you a huge discount on your doctor visits, the hospital, etc. when you're pregnant. I think it costs $99 to sign up and $99/month and if they don't save you at least as much as you pay them, then they pay you the extra PLUS $200. They were very helpful and as soon as I contacted them, they contacted me very quickly. Your chance of finding "cheap and good insurance" is probably not going to happen now that you're already pregnant, unless you are employed and your employer will pay for insurance. No individual policies (at least in Colorado) will cover maternity for less than $150/month, they usually have an 18 month waiting period on top of that, have high co-pays, high deductibles, etc. You might as well pay out of pocket in other words. If you know for sure that you're not eligible for Medicaid, try MaternityCard.com and they'll act as an insurance discount provider for you.

It is ILLEGAL for a doctor to deny you medical help during pregnancy. They can set up a payment plan that best fits your financial status. There is now an insurance called Well care and it's similar to Medicaid. However, there is a co-pay. It is a small co-pay....but it is insurance that covers pregnancy. So, I would go back to reapply for Medicaid and talk to a case worker to see what can be worked out for you. If this doesn't work and you still get denied, then you can go to the local health department...they will give you prenatal care for free..

Unfortunately, since you are already pregnant, you cannot get real insurance to assist you. You can purchase health insurance, but it would exclude anything with the pregnancy. Beware of the cheap discount plans that sound too good to be true because they are. I have seen many of my clients ripped off from them. One thing you can do to help with the cost is to contact the hospital where you are planning on having the baby. Ask them if you can set up a prepay plan to include all of the necessary care as well as if they have prenatal care. This will normally cut the cost of the pregnancy by up to half as well as your delivery is paid for by the time you go to have the baby. Consult your doctor also. They may have a prepay plan available to help.

I don't believe you're not elligible. Medicaid is merely a temporary substitute for health insurance. It's not an issue until after the baby is 6months.

How do you know you are not eligible for medicade, if you applied and turned down, you can always apply again. Also, try the midwife programs at local hospitals, they are for low income mothers.
