NJ is doing fine. Little slumps happen. And remember, the Bruins are hot right now, I believe in the last month they are 10-4-1. And only 4 points behind a playoff spot? Anyway my point is they aren't as bad as last fall.
And the Devils are always solid, never huge bad streaks, you know? Brodeur is amazing.

I wouldn't panic about the losses... both Toronto and Boston are fighting for their playoff lives at this point.. they are basically must win games for them whereas New Jersey is (or should be) in semi-cruising mode.

I don't mean to make it sound like NJ isn't playing hard or doesn't mind the losses... a loss is a loss and of course they are working hard for a win every game.... but when you play teams that are fighting for a playoff spot.. they often have a slight advantage because mentally they are already playing in playoff mode. It's like a team can be playing well and giving 95-100% but their opponents are in 110% mode... so they often will win... at the cost of potentially being burnt out when the playoffs finally arrive.

The Devils have the advantage of having a playoff spot virtually assured and as long as they keep playing "near" 100%.. while hopefully resting some of their top players (by giving their top lines just regular shifts and not pushing them excessively in games etc) they can still have momentum going into the playoffs without players tired and burnt out just from trying to win a playoff spot or the President's(curse)Trophy for example.

I would think the coaching staff might even rest Brodeur for a few games down the stretch... one worry is that they will play him every game to break the single season wins record (47 Bernie Parent 1973-74) or surpass the modern day record for shutouts in a season of 15 (Tony Esposito 1969-70). (George Hainsworth had 22 shutouts back in 1928-29 but the hockey style was MUCH lower scoring in those days.)

They didn't win the president's trophy in 95, 00, or 03 either but they won the Cup in each of those years.

Martin Brodeur's having the best year of his career and will win the Vezina (best goalie), Hart (MVP), and Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) on his way to his 4th Stanley Cup!

I agree with Rich, don't sweat the last two games. We never had much luck going into the playoffs as the one seed anyway. When round one begins, Lou and the coaching staff will have this team ready.

I'm not worried about winning the President's Trophy. The first seed would be nice but it's not critical. As long as we win the division we'll be in good shape.
