Thomas Jones and a second round pick for the Jets second round pick, it just doesnt make sense.

Thomas Jones was not happy sharing the load and knowing he was not the future of this team. This is his last contract year and they where not planning on re-signing him. Adrian Peterson is a great back up and will compliment Benson nicely. There is a big difference between the 37 pick and the 63 pick, the 37th pick is still usually a really nice player... The whole Lance Briggs thing is Briggs being stupid. He wants Brian Urlacher money and he is no Brian Urlacher. He thinks he is one of the best Linebackers in the league. Its easy to look good when everyone is focused on Urlacher, he is a product of the system and wont be as good on a team that doesn't already have a major Defensive presence... Rivera wanted to go to the Chargers to learn the 3-4 defense since they run it on 3rd and long and the Bears don't run it at all. He couldn't get a starting head coach job because of his lack of knowledge on the 3-4. So that move was to benefit him... Don't just jump to conclusions, there is more behind each story.....

PS. PACKERS SUCK!

Ok trading Jones was not stupid because he wanted out. Jones leaving gives Benson the oppurtunity to step in and be the starter. However, trading second round picks with the Jets is sort of like they just gave Jones to the Jets. They didnt really get anything out of it. Hell if they were going to trade him they should have kept there second round pick unless the Jets gave up a first round pick. Now that part of the trade was just stupid because what do the Jets lose, nothing they just move back a few spots in the second round but they dont lose a first rounder or a second rounder for that matter and they gain a guy that has proven that he can carry the load.

The last time the Bears started a top 5 draft choice at running back, his career lasted a whopping three years and he ran for 1500 yards and scored 4 touchdowns. His name was Curtis Enis. Jones can get that in a season. I love the trade for the Jets, because they have that do everything back that they sorely needed. Now they can address other needs in the draft/free agency. But Chicago screwed up getting rid of this guy, and its going to come back to haunt them. If they're smart, they'd use that 2nd round pick on a QUARTERBACK. Only two will be taken in the first round, so that leaves guys like Kolb, Beck, Stanton, etc all available

Well if you just say 2nd round pick than the trade doesnt sound very good but the Jets 2nd round pick is actually the 37th overall pick(5th pick in the 2nd round), and bears 2nd round pick is the 63rd overall pick(31st pick in the 2nd round). Thats a pretty significant jump. According to Jimmy Johnson value chart for draft picks the 37th pick is worth 530 points the 63rd pick is worth 276 points. The difference is 254 points which is equivalent to the the 67th overall pick (4th pick in the 3rd round).

Another words the bears essentially got a early 3rd round pick for thomas jones. Which sounds about right.

They think that Cedric Benson is ready to take over a full time role at running back. Benson has made enough progress to justify the move in their eyes. Benson also was a high draft pick. and has a very high salary. Plus he's a lot younger then Jones. They also feel that they need help in other areas. That's why they made the pick.

They could not afford to pay Jones what he wanted along with Lovie Smith and all the other high paid players. I also do not think they already had a 2nd round pick, that is what they gained out of the deal.

This one makes no sense. They give up Jones, who in my mind is a better all purpose back than Benson. Now you have Benson as your full time starter to carry the load, Good Luck!! Bears management screwed Ron Rivera, dragged their feet with Lovie Smith, and now have Lance Briggs upset. What are they thinking???

until the bears get a viable quarterback, all other concerns are irrelevant.
