Marianas trench, Marianas trough, or Marianas deep, depression in the Pacific Ocean, 210 mi (338 km) SW of Guam. The deepest (36,198 ft/11,033 m) part of any ocean, it was reached (1960) by two men in a U.S. navy bathyscape.
