Seriously. Maybe if this country decided to let people marry who they actually want to marry (as in consenting adults),the divorce rate wouldn't be almost as high as the freakin marriage rate.

Because the whole concept of marriage was based on the fact that people used to only live to be like 30, so staying together for 15 years or so wasn't that long.......I believe (truely) in renewable contracts....it would not work for the lawyers at all, people would stay married because they wanted to and the till death due you part thing would seem more doable......

I'm sorry, Poppenfresh really has nothing to do with it. BUT.
I think most people take marriage to mean "until I don't feel like being married to you anymore," instead of "until death". People feel like once the butterflies are gone, the marriage is over.
I can't really say whether I agree, since I've never been truly, madly, deeply in love, but I think it's just silly.

I believe the divorce rate comes from the gvmt 'one size fits all' definition of what a marriage is.
Everyone is an individual with individual views of what a marriage should be. Individuals should define their own relationships for themselves.
By getting the gvmt OUT of the marriage business, people could then enjoy the relationships they desire as they see best defined for themselves.

Well, I take a glass half-full view. There was a time (which some people want to return to) where people stayed in dead, unhappy relationships because of lack of options. Only relationships based on the choice to be there seem real, to me. Which might give us pause about "Gay Marriage". Do we want their instability rate?
