I've read many reasons from analysts why the PS3 failed for Sony. What do you all think?

IronKnuckles: No, I mean the PS3. The PSP failure is old news, unfortunately. Beautiful device, but mine just gathers dust.

It hasn't failed yet, per se, but it's close. Here's why:

A. Low supply: 250,000 units at launch is not enough for 6 million people.

B. Not many good games: Resistance: Fall of Man is the only must-have game I can think of for PS3. That Gundam game is terrible.

C. High price: $600 is how much I should be paying for two. $350, in my opinion, is the highest price a console can sell for and do well.

D. Unoriginality: What's so new and great about the PS3? Sure, it's practically a supercomputer, but if developers can't make use of it, it's worthless. They also have the same controller as with the PS1. And they copied the Wii's motion-sensing.

E. Glitchiness: PS3's have been plagued by a number of technical glitches. The fact that most PS1 and PS2 games don't work on it certainly doesn't help either.

There you have it. My reasons for why the PS3 is failing.

Who said the PS3 was a failure? It has already sold over 3 million units worldwide (North America and Japan), and the European, Australian, and Asian launch hasn't even started yet. The Wii and 360 has already launched in Japan, North America, Asia, and Europe.

The PS3 might have failed Sony because of Sony's high expectation for the PS3. The numbers aren't selling as well as Sony would like, but it's mainly Sony's fault for not having enough units at launch and not enough games to get gamers to go out and spend 600 bucks to buy the PS3. But the PS3 is slowly picking up pace, and there's supposed to be a huge announcement from Phil Harrison regarding the PS3.

The PS3 did not copy Nintendo's Wii-mote. Nintendo didn't showcase the Wii-mote until E3 2006, which is the same event that Sony announced the Sixaxis controller. Sony even had a demo (Warhawk) showcasing the Sixaxis at work, so there's no way that Sony stole the idea from Nintendo, then make a game overnight that uses the Sixaxis controller. It takes months to make a game that uses the Sixaxis function.

The PS3 can play almost all PSX and PS2 games. At the time of the launch, there were only about 200 PSX and PS2 games that didn't work properly on the PS3. That's 200 games out of many thousands of games. That's a very small percentage. With the firmware update, the number is dwindling down even more.

Ps3 Fail

Um dont you mean PSP and not PS3...because PS3 has already sold more than 1.3 million and still climing (more than 360 in its first 8 months) consoles in the US alone and has sold 2.3 million in Japan...not only to mention the other 2 million in other countries...PS3 has not failed this is merly a hic-up before most of their greater games come out. I only bought the 360 to play gears of war, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 3...and when I bought the 360...I was asking the same question (why did 360 failed.)

Because it hasn't been out long enough? Seriously it hasn't failed yet. The struggles it is having is mostly because the price. It's like a Rolls Royce. A status symbol plain and simple. The problem there is that Sony put too much unproven technology into it. They put the Cell Processor in, no one really knows what it will do yet. They put Blu-Ray in. No one knows if it will make it yet(trust me it will because Sony owns like half the movie studios and got the other half to use Blu-Ray if only in combination). Sony has free net but they seem to still be figuring out what they are doing with it. You have to give it time for them to figure that out.

i wouldn't call it a failure yet. They'll fix the glitches, revamp it and remmarket it. From the little I know about it. I'd say it has a few glitches and doesn't offer nearly enough for the amount it costs. So in a nutshell, high price and there's better game systems cheaper.

It has not failed yet. Sony did not have enough for intial release and the price point is still way to high. They need to bring is down to thx 360's price point to get competive again.
