I was born in 1975 and when I was a little kid (even up to 1985) we had a stereo console. It looked like a fancy wood box with a lid on it--half of it was an 8-track player and half of it was a record player. I don't rembmer it being new, and I never used the 8-track player, but the record player was all we had until we got a "ghetto blaster" in 1984. So, were we seriously behind the times, or does anyone else my age remember seeing them? Am I making myself look older than I really am when I tell someone about it?

The one I am talking about is like a piece of furniture--about 4 ft wide and 3 ft high maybe. I really think it is a 70s model because of the 8-track. But were we behind the times having them in the house in the 80s? I hope I didnt' date myself older than I really am--cuz I got a few funny looks when I shared about it. Kind of embarrassing now.

Born in '77...my grandparents had one of those big consoles. My parents had a more 70's Sony brushed aluminum component system. They still have it and it still works. It was amazing to me when electronics started coming in silver again a couple of years ago...it reminded me of my parents setup... it looks modern again.

I was born in 73 and my parents had a Stereo/8-track/record player. I finally got my parents to replace this thing a couple of years ago. I actually still have a couple of the records I used to listen to as a kid on that thing.

Theirs wasn't a furniture type unit, but I did buy one of those at a garage sale when I was 11 for like 20 bucks. It was a late sixties model that didn't have the 8-track. RCA was the model I think. It worked great.

I was born the same year like you, and I also remember those old radios. In my case, I still have a lot of tape cassettes, which I'll never throw away 'cause I have some very rare music on 'em.
And I don't feel old at all 'cause of that. You also shouldn't!

In December 1966, my first husband and I bought one new for Christmas. Excuse me, that was the TV and record player.
It was 1972, that we got one for Chirstmas.
