I have 4 (!!!) slings and I favoured the following at different times...
Baby Bjorn- never, I just disliked it from the get go, it was so uncomfortable for me, but the hubs loved it.
Pouch sling- I love this one, perfect for newborn- easy to breastfeed with it on and great for hip carry at 6 months +
Ring Sling - also great for newborn (though bubs can feel a little "lost" inside it) and from every stage thereafter AND if you are sewer you could make a sling yourself pretty easily - if not though, I love the mayawrap. Also great for breastfeeding.
Hug-a-bub - this is the same style as a baby bjorn but it is one long piece of fabric - the beauty of it is that the way that you tie it up makes it SUPER comfy as your hips bear a lot of the baby weight. If you use the "pea in a pod" position you can breastfeed.
Overall, I would go for a ring sling and if you are not too keen on the rings then the pouch would be a close second :) Good luck and as a previous poster advised www.thebabywearer.com is an excellent site for all things slings :)

I love the Maya wrap (http://www.mayawrap.com/). They have the 'traditional' with a large ring you can wear over your right or left shoulder, has a pocket for an emergency diaper and has a great selection of colors and patterns. From their website "We will gladly ship your order to any country for which the United States Post Office offers insurance."
Then as the kids get older it can be used to assist with the 'hip' hold and for on the back. There are at least 5 ways to carry babies and toddlers with the wrap. AND if you and dad are close to the same height, he can use it too.
The way the wrap hold baby you do not see much, even with that when nursing the 'tail' can become a nursing cover.
If the wrap seems like too much work, they also have a zip-type pouch that also allows 5 carrying positions.
FYI - I still use it with my 3 1/2 yr daughter (34 lbs) and my 2 yr son for both hip holds and on the back (boy does it save my back!). I found it for #3, but REALLY wish I had it for #2 (she ALWAYS wanted to be held). They are rated up to 35 lbs., but you decide for yourself.
Congratulations and Happy Shopping.

If possible try it on in the store before buying. We bought a Graco back/tummy pack for our first baby. I hated it. It was too hard to get the baby in and out. It was a two person job.
With my second baby, I made a sling. There's not that much sewing involved. I loved it. I used it at the store, at home, on walks, at the park. It is so easy to get the baby in and out. There's plenty of coverage if you need to breastfeed. If the baby falls asleep you can get him/her out with out waking him/her up. There are plenty of positions you can carry the baby in while using the sling. Some slings are approved for children up to 30 or more pounds. It distributes the weight across your back so it's easy to wear. I still use it with my 1 year old (20 lbs).
If you make your own you can pick a light-weight fabric for summer temperatures. You can also add pockets for items you want to keep handy. They are also available at many baby stores and on line.
If you decide to make your own here are some "how-to" sites:

You want to avoid one that places all the baby's weight on its crotch. There are studies being done about spinal development being compromised by this method of carrying.
When my son was small i used a mayawrap sling. Then I got and ERGO. it is the best carrier. It doesn't hurt my back, it can carry a small infant to large toddler on the front or back and the baby sits in it with the weight supported by his butt not genitals!
You can order carriers on-line. http://www.thebabywearer.com is an excellent resource too!

Rain kit for them to boot and an umbrella. we've a stroller even nevertheless it particularly is rarely used. we've been caught in undesirable climate and used the above and it works wonders. Having your toddler bundled up and on the threshold of you keeps them heat interior the sling to boot. sturdy success! I additionally positioned the toddler under my coat. My mom replace into horrified- yet she replace into comfy and comfy and heat and in no way peeped. At 5 months, she'd peek out to verify what replace into happening and then tuck lower back in- it replace into too lovable! Slush and strollers do not blend!

I also like baby bjorn, and it meets all your requirements. The 'active' version is more expensive, but incredibly comfortable - you really don't feel the weight on your back as it has lumbar support. It also looks good and is available in different colours. You can get second hand ones in good condition on eBay (which is what I did) but they aren't that much cheaper than new, as they are that good.
